The annual Chinese New Year Celebration Party was held by the Office of International & Cross-Strait Academic Exchange in Armed Forces Officer's Club 10:30 a.m.-2:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 9th. Staff and volunteers prepared lottery prizes and well-planed performances. Overseas students had a great time in the party.
Students from Fuzhou University and volunteers were invited to join this party for the first time. There were 44 tables filled with participants. President Pan was the host to worship Chinese ancestors. The other participants included Qui, Yu-Zhan, a counselor of the Ministry of Education, and Lv, Su-Zhen, deputy director of Overseas Community Affairs Council and many faculty and staff members from Soochow Univeristy. A Cambodian student, Luan, Xuan-Miaoling, together with a Thai student, Zhuang, Man-Qin read the eulogy. Predisent Pan worshiped Chinese ancestors with alcohol, tea, meal and fruit. It was a simple but profound ritual. President Pan, Mr.Qiu and Mr. Lv encouraged overseas students to make full use of what they have learned at Soochow University and make the world a better place after graduation. The faculty gave lucky money to each student and wish them a happy Chinese new year at the end of the whole grand “Worship Ancestor Ceremony.”
One of ICDC volunteers, Chen Jun-Yi said, “Worshiping Ancestors could prevent homesickness and bring a sense of belonging to overseas students.” The entire party made a great impression on faculty and overseas students.
