Soochow University was notified that the results of its self-evaluation on departments have been approved and allowed to be announced, as it received an official notification from the Ministry of Education (MOE) on October 24, 2016.

After the MOE’s announcement of the review principle of pilot scheme for universities’ self-evaluation in 2012, SCU was listed among the 34 schools as first qualifiers for this trial project. Later in 2013, SCU drew up a full set of plan about governing the external self-evaluation and filed an application to the MOE for the approval of the first stage of self-evaluation. Upon the authorization by the MOE in 2014, SCU began five external self-evaluation procedures including “preparation,” “self-evaluation,” “on-site interviews and investigations,” “evaluation results,” and “follow-ups and improvement.”

With the first three procedures completed by September 19th, all of SCU’s 26 departments, degree programs, and general education units (including 66 classes) had finished their self-evaluation, which had later been approved by the MOE. While each department or program still had something left to be desired, the school administration will urge and monitor subsequent improvements through regular follow-ups in order to achieve continuous betterment.
