On the 2nd of December, the press conference of the 2016 Soochow University International Ultra Marathon was held at the Wangxing Square on Waishuangxi Campus. This year’s event had something slightly different from previous years. Besides introducing the 24-hour race contestants, the opening press conference showed a teaser of “Please Consider It!”, a micro film directed by Yong-Wei Lee, a student of Soochow University.

Yong-Wei Lee studies in the Department of German Language and Culture at Soochow University. He just had his short film, “The Day to Choose”, nominated by the Cannes Film Festival for the 2016 Short Film Corner at the beginning of this year. Also, “The Day to Choose” was the only Taiwanese work that had been nominated and awarded by the 2016 Universe Multicultural Film Festival. At the invitation of the Office of Physical Education, he filmed a fifteen-minute micro film, “Please Consider It!”, which is based on the true story of Shu-Rong Qiu, Mrs. Ultramarathon in Taiwan.

Yong-Wei Lee became interested in film and television related industry in senior high school and then participated in “SCU Film Festival” held by the Department of Chinese Literature. He hopes to study film and communication in Germany. “There are opportunities in life for you to do something that really matters. You have to try your best to grab them and never give up.” Speaking of his enthusiasm and persistence with films, he pointed out that his movies do not have to inspire people and he just wants to help people appreciate the beauty of images and film arts through his movies.

The micro film “Please Consider It!” is based on the true story of Shu-Rong Qiu, the record holder of Taiwan Ultra Marathon Women’s Group. In 2008, she got blisters on her feet in the 1150-km “Throughout France” Ultra Marathon, and did not treat them in time. This resulted in cellulitis and both of her feet had to be amputated. However, she never gave up running and struggled for Qualification for the Olympics. By telling Shu-Rong Qiu’s story, “Please Consider It!” encourages runners from all over the world to challenge themselves and join Soochow University International Ultra Marathon.
