As the first Wednesday in October is internationally designated as World Cerebral Palsy (CP) Day, the Cerebral Palsy Association (CPA) of R.O.C. had launched a series of activities to show love and care for cerebral palsy patients and to arouse public awareness of CP. On October 4, Soochow University’s Health and Counseling Center saw off two of SCU students, who were CP patients, with cheer-up kits for their four-day trip that intended to spread joy and goodwill through community services.

The CPA had selected 16 representatives for its loving service tour “A Wheelchair Around Taiwan,” including two students from SCU-Rong-Rong Hsu from Department of Philosophy and Pu-En Sun from Department of Political Science, both of whom were physically challenged with cerebral palsy. They have participated in such love-spreading services for many years, and this year they devoted themselves to the campaign with the same full passion as usual.

Before their departure, students, staff and teachers from Health and Counseling Center gathered at Waishuangshi Campus and gave blessings to Hsu and Sun. The director Shu-Wen Yao presented to them cheer-up kits as a gift, which included a SCU-logo visor, a whole bunch of candy representing wealth, a fanny pack that may come in handy during their trip, and a bag of kids’ snack “Guai Guai” to wish them a safe and smooth journey.

Their team of love-spreading service around the island started their tour on Moon Festival, October 4, and would return on October 7. They would visit nursing homes in five cities or counties in central and southern Taiwan, where they would accompany and entertain the elderly through singing, dancing and playing games.
