Produced by Soochow University’s Instructional Technology Division, the Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs) class of "Learning Authentic Japanese from Its Culture'' stood out from 57 competing schools and nabbed “Excellent” prize in the 2023 National Open Education Excellence Course Awards.

The pre-recorded course, organized and hosted by Associate Professor Tsung-Ho Lee of the Japanese Department, aims to familiarize students with traditional Japanese culture through casual conversational lectures. In each week’s class, Prof. Lee would invite a guest with professional Japanese cultural backgrounds, including Prof. Uen-Ia Juan, Prof. Mei-Hwa Wu, Prof. Cheng-Chieh Chang, and Prof. Wei-Jung Lin, to share their expertise in their respective cultural fields.

In addition, the Japanese conversation lessons of the course, presented by native Japanese teachers Hikosaka Haruno and Akira Goto, featured various cultural topics each week, complete with units of sentence patterns and grammar. Students and staff who are interested are welcome to register for the course free of charge on the TaiwanLIFE platform.

The University’s MOOCs team has been committed to optimizing the quality of digital curricula. By assisting professors in designing and producing informative online courses, the team has helped professors integrate current issues and theories into their curriculum. Students are also able to watch the course videos according to their individual schedule.
