Students from SCU Law Department won the third place and the honorable mention of plaintiff pleadings in 2016 Lee and Li Moot Court Competition on October 29th after one week of heated debates at National Cheng Chi University. Team Captain Ming-Cheng Wang also nabbed the Outstanding Debater Award.

The team consists of law majors in their fourth or fifth year, including some members from last year and the team reporter who was embedded with the team and recorded the competition. Some members devoted themselves to the preparation right after another debate contest or the final exam from last semester.

Guided and trained by Professor Ju-Yin Chen, the team consulted with many professors and students, searched through every useful resource in the library and even printed them out for information management and group discussion. The members also debated among themselves and challenged each other’s ideas to make the best preparations for the contest. Team member Si-Hsuan Li even quipped that the amount of reading for preparation had been in the peak of all her college days.

During the preparation, as the team dug deeper in their research, they discovered more of their own shortcomings, but throughout the course of the week-long contest they learned from practical experience of competitions and problem reviews to make up for the deficit of their knowledge.

With tough opponents all eyeing on the prizes, the team still fought their way through with stellar teamwork, and clinched the third place trophy, and the honorable mention of plaintiff pleadings as well. The success was without a doubt the best recognition for the team’s effort, which marked a perfect ending for the SCU debate team at the 2016 Lee and Li Moot Court Competition.
