Soochow University has recently renovated the 26-year-old former International Aeronautics and Space Law and Applications Information Center (the “Space Law Center”), and renamed it as Wo-Lung Center for Multimedia Applications (the “Wo-Lung Center”). On January 18th, 2021, SU President Wei-Ta Pan and other administrative heads visited the newly-furbished center and tested it with a video conference and presentations.

The tour started with a brief introduction by President Pan, who showed various hardware upgrades to the visitors, followed by a video conference held by the Law School with Xin-Jun Fang, Dean of School of Law, Soochow University in China, showing SU’s capability in remote education in the current COVID-19 pandemic.

The Center’s high-quality facilities were also put into use with two presentations. Pei-Te Chen, deputy director of Cybersecurity Technology Institute from Institute for Information Industry, talked about the relation between smart devices and information security crisis; Ming-Ying Lu, Assistant Professor of School of Big Data Management, brought a discussion on big data applications.

Back in 1995, The Space Law Center was founded under the fund raised by Professor Chia-Jui Cheng to commemorate the contributions of former SU President Winston Hsiao-Tzu Chang and former Dean of Law School Andrew Lee.

After a quarter of a century, coinciding with President Wei-Ta Pan’s initiative, Mr. Robert T.H. Chuang (alumnus, School of Law, Class of 2012) donated funds for the renovation and renaming of the Space Law Center in 2020 in memory of his ancestor Mr. Wo-Lung Wu.

Wo-Lung Center is now available for multi-purpose use by Soochow students, faculty, and members of the various research centers under the School of Law.
