From March 13th to April 13th, 2021, Soochow University celebrated its 121st anniversary by encouraging its faculty and staff to walk. The month-long activity has ended up with excellent results: All 121 participants had finished the required minimum mileage of 12.1 km, while 106 of them completed the 121-km mark, which equaled to an 87% attainment rate; all walkers had accumulated a total of 23,018 kilometers, approximately equaling to 24.5 laps of circling the Taiwan proper.
The top three runners are David Chi (Department of English Language and Literature, 966.2km), Cheng-Ts’un Lin (Admissions Division, 921.4km), Ching-Ming Chao (The EMBA program, 800.5km).
After the conclusion of the activity, participating walkers were awarded with prizes presented by President Wei-Ta Pan. He, along with Vice President Bau-Tscheng Dung, Dean of Academic Affairs Chyan-Long Jan, Dean of Student Affairs Kuen-Chang Lee, generously provided additional bonuses for the participants.
Many top performers at the walk-a-thon were coincidentally called David. These “Davids” had jokingly encouraged other contestants to rename themselves as David to join “The Davids,” which added a lot of fun to the event.
