On September 8th, 2021, Dean of School of Law Gung-Yeu Jeng and Dean of School of Big Data Management Chin-Hsiung Hsu each signed an academic cooperation memorandum of understanding (MOU) with National Academy of Marine Research (NAMR).
As a national think tank for marine affairs, NAMR’s mission is to assist Ocean Affairs Council to formulate policies, investigate resources, conduct scientific research, boost industry development, and cultivate talents with regard to oceanic matters.
According to the MOU, School of Law will collaborate with NAMR to develop research on the sustainable use of ocean resources and conservation, the legalization of marine affairs and policies, maritime security and international strategic cooperation, marine economy and industrial policies, and underwater cultural heritage preservation.
Also, School of Big Data Management will undertake research on marine big data applications, AI image recognition and ocean data simulation.
Soochow President Wei-Ta Pan and Ocean Affairs Council Deputy Minister Ching-Piao Tsai both mentioned in the ceremony that they had high hopes on this collaboration between the public sector and academia and looked forward to the promising results.
