On December 6th, 2021, Soochow’s Digital Currency and Financial Research Center (DCFC) finalized an agreement of industry-academy cooperation with SinoPac Financial Holdings. In the signing ceremony at Downtown campus, SU President Wei-Ta Pan emphasized the importance of redefining financial services, especially from the younger generation’s perspective.

Due to the consumer habits of the digital natives and the emergence of new digital technology, such as blockchain, AI, non-fungible token (NFT) and Metaverse, the traditional banking services at the counter are becoming outdated, and financial services are going to change dramatically in this digital age, he said.

Stanley Chu, the general manager of SinoPac and the founder of AIESEC (Association Internationale des Étudiants en Sciences Économiques et Commerciales) in SU, defined this collaboration as an innovation practice platform for students, hoping the younger generation can make good use of the resources from SinoPac, in order to learn brand-new knowledge of financial services.

Chu also pointed out that even though the smartphone has existed for only 14 years, it has changed the financial services industry drastically as digital technology has replaced a lot of traditional services in financial institutions. He expected this academia and industry collaboration will be a starting point and a communication platform for more opportunities of partnership in the future.

Su-Hua Ou, CEO of DCFC, announced that the first SU-SinoPac Digital Forum at 7 p.m. December 16th, 2021 would raise the curtain of the cooperation by addressing the topic of the innovation ecosystem from NFT to Metaverse with senior supervisors of Jcard and HTC VR and other experts sharing their views. The Center also welcomes students to explore more possibilities at an explanation session of internship on January 12th, 2022.

Pan also encouraged students to learn from the two managers of SinoPac, Stanley Chu and Ryan Yen. Both outstanding alumni make great contributions to SU, helping the school to cultivate interdisciplinary talents in digital technology and financial industry.
