On April 22nd, 2023, a large audience gathered at a concert in SU’s Waishaungsi campus to commemorate the prominent alumnus Shih-Cheng Huang (Class of 1958, Dept. of Law), who passed away in May 2022, for his devotion to the society as a Soochower.

Attending the event were SU President Wei-Ta Pan, former National Assembly President, Chin-Jang Chen, Deputy Mayor of Taipei City Yi-Hua Lin, People First Party Chairman James Soong, etc.

Huang had been elected as the 9th and 10th Governor of Chuanghua County, and had served as Councilor of Executive Yuan, Advisor of National Policy, and Chairperson of Central Election Commission before he established Taiwan Heritage Foundation. His life-long pursuit for social justice and his dedication to public welfare had made him a respectable role model for all.

His denial to join any political parties during the 30 years of his career as civil servants and government officials was truly remarkable and extraordinary. With his background in law profession, Huang applied himself to public affairs and charities after his retirement.

His daughter, former legislator Wen-Ling Huang, and his son, Representative of Taiwan in Switzerland Wei-Feng Huang, expressed appreciation for this warm, memorable concert.

SU’s orchestra played series of songs such as When Applause Arose and My Thankful Heart, saluting the bravery and legacy of Shih-Cheng Huang, and his practicing of Soochow’s motto, Unto a Full-Grown Man, which will be missed by all Soochowers.
